Clare Waismann, Registered Addiction Specialist (RAS), Substance Use Disorder Certified Counselor (SUDCC), founder of WAISMANN METHOD® and Domus Retreat® and Michael H. Lowenstein, M.D., MPH,
Anesthesia-Assisted Detoxification Expert, WAISMANN METHOD® Medical Director, share their opinions on treatment options for opioid use disorder and mental health. Opioid use disorder (OUD) is a complex condition affecting millions of Americans. Prescription opioids are powerful analgesic medications that include oxycodone, morphine, and fentanyl. Street opioids are usually heroin and opium. Although opium is a Schedule II drug, it has no medical use and is considered an illegal drug in the USA. Methadone and buprenorphine are also opioid drugs usually prescribed by doctors for those suffering from addiction to all types of opioids including heroin.
